Target Holiday Hours 2026: Thanksgiving, Christmas & More
Target holiday hours can change depending on the holiday and your specific store. Two closures are especially important for planning: Target has a permanent policy of closing its stores on Thanksgiving Day, and its most recently published holiday schedule also closed stores on Christmas Day.
For many other holidays, Target’s official guidance is to check the selected store because hours can vary. As of October 7, 2026, Target has not yet published its complete 2026 Thanksgiving-to-Christmas operating schedule, so exact 2026 Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and extended December hours should not be assumed from previous years.
Quick Answer
Target stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day under the company’s ongoing Thanksgiving closure policy. Target has also consistently closed its stores on Christmas Day, including in its latest published holiday schedule.
For Christmas Eve, Black Friday, New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and other holidays, check your selected Target store before visiting. Target states that holiday hours can vary by store.

Is Target Open on Thanksgiving 2026?
No. Target stores are scheduled to be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026.
This is more than a one-year holiday-hours decision. Target announced in 2021 that its stores would remain closed on Thanksgiving Day moving forward. The company later described the Thanksgiving closure as a permanent policy.
Target continued following that policy in subsequent holiday seasons, including 2025.
Online shopping may remain available while physical stores are closed. However, a digital order placed on Thanksgiving should not be interpreted as meaning that in-store pickup or Drive Up is available while the store itself is closed.
Is Target Open on Black Friday 2026?
Target is expected to reopen for Black Friday on Friday, November 27, 2026, but the company had not published a specific 2026 Black Friday opening time as of October 7, 2026.
Therefore, shoppers should not assume that a previous year’s early opening time will automatically apply in 2026.
For context, Target opened stores at 6 a.m. local time on Black Friday in both 2024 and 2025. Those times are useful historical context, but they are not confirmation of the 2026 schedule.
Check Target’s current holiday announcement or your selected store closer to Black Friday.
Is Target Open on Christmas Eve 2026?
Target traditionally operates on Christmas Eve, often with adjusted holiday hours. However, Target’s exact nationwide Christmas Eve 2026 schedule has not yet been publicly confirmed.
In the 2025 holiday season, Target announced that stores would operate from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. local time on Christmas Eve. Target also used a 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve schedule in 2024.
That repeated schedule should not be automatically presented as the confirmed 2026 schedule. Check again when Target publishes its 2026 December holiday operating plan.
Does Target Close Early on Christmas Eve?
Target has closed earlier than its extended pre-Christmas schedule on Christmas Eve in recent years.
For example, the company’s 2025 holiday schedule had stores operating until midnight during the extended shopping period through December 23, followed by an 8 p.m. closing time on December 24.
The exact 2026 Christmas Eve closing time still requires confirmation.
Is Target Open on Christmas Day 2026?
Target has a longstanding practice of closing its stores on Christmas Day, December 25. Its latest published holiday schedule confirmed that stores were closed on Christmas Day 2025, following the same policy used in prior years.
As of October 7, however, Target has not yet released its complete 2026 Christmas operating schedule. Shoppers should therefore verify the 2026 announcement when it becomes available rather than relying solely on a previous year’s timetable.
If Target follows its established policy, physical stores will be closed on Friday, December 25, 2026.
Is Target Open on New Year’s Day 2026?
Target’s official help information does not provide one universal nationwide New Year’s Day schedule. Holiday hours can vary by store.
For New Year’s Day, use your selected store’s official listing to confirm:
- Opening time
- Closing time
- Available store services
- Pickup availability
Do not assume another Target location follows exactly the same schedule.
Is Target Open on Easter 2026?
Target does not currently publish a universal Easter schedule in its general holiday-hours help information. For Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, store-specific verification is the safest approach.
If you are planning an Easter shopping trip, check the actual location rather than relying on regular Sunday operating hours.
Is Target Open on Memorial Day 2026?
For Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026, Target directs shoppers to individual store information when checking holiday hours.
A universal 2026 Memorial Day opening and closing schedule is not publicly stated in Target’s general holiday-hours guidance.
Check the selected location before traveling.
Is Target Open on Independence Day 2026?
For Saturday, July 4, 2026, verify your individual Target store’s operating hours.
Target’s official holiday-hours help page states that hours vary by store rather than providing a single companywide timetable for every holiday.
Store operating hours should also not be confused with the availability of specific services.
Is Target Open on Labor Day 2026?
For Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, shoppers should rely on their selected store’s published hours.
Target does not currently provide a universal Labor Day schedule through its general holiday-hours guidance.
Target Thanksgiving and Christmas Schedule
The most important distinction in Target’s holiday schedule is between companywide closure policies and store-specific holiday hours.
| Holiday Period | What Is Confirmed |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving 2026 | Stores closed |
| Black Friday 2026 | Exact hours not yet announced |
| December holiday period 2026 | Exact extended hours not yet announced |
| Christmas Eve 2026 | Exact hours not yet announced |
| Christmas Day 2026 | Longstanding closure practice; full 2026 schedule still pending |
| Other holidays | Check individual store |
This distinction matters because copying the previous year’s timetable can produce incorrect opening and closing times.
What Were Target’s Most Recent Holiday Hours?
Target’s 2025 schedule provides useful context for understanding how the retailer handles the peak holiday season, although these times should not be treated as the 2026 schedule.
Target’s published 2025 holiday plan included:
| 2025 Holiday Period | Published Store Schedule |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving Day | Closed |
| Black Friday | Opened at 6 a.m. local time |
| November 29–December 23 | 7 a.m.–midnight local time |
| Christmas Eve | 7 a.m.–8 p.m. local time |
| Christmas Day | Closed |
This historical schedule shows why checking the year matters. Target can publish special hours for Black Friday, the December shopping period, and Christmas Eve instead of simply following normal weekly store hours.
Does Target Have Extended Holiday Hours?
Yes, Target has used extended store hours during the Christmas shopping season.
In 2025, Target announced extended hours from November 29 through December 23, with stores operating from 7 a.m. until midnight local time. Target also used extended December hours in 2024.
However, Target has not yet confirmed that exact schedule for 2026.
Extended hours can affect when you can shop inside the store, but they should not automatically be treated as the operating window for every service offered by a location.
Do Target Holiday Hours Vary by Location?
Yes. Target explicitly states that holiday hours can vary by store.
That means a general Target holiday schedule should never replace the current information for the location you actually plan to visit.
Differences may also exist between the store’s overall operating hours and hours for specific services or departments. When checking a location, review the relevant service information instead of assuming the main store schedule applies to everything.
How to Check Target Holiday Hours Near You
The most reliable method is Target’s official store information.
Target provides store hours through both its website and app. On the website, use the store finder, enter your ZIP code or city and state, select the appropriate location, and review its store information.
In the Target app, select your preferred store and review the displayed hours. Target also provides weekly store-hour information for individual locations.
For a major holiday, check close to the date because special hours may be published after the regular weekly schedule.
If a specific service is important, confirm that service separately.
Check Holiday Hours in the Target App
The Target app can display information for a selected store, including store hours.
This is particularly useful when you have several Target locations nearby because selecting the exact location helps prevent you from relying on another store’s schedule.
The app can also be used for shopping and order-related functions, but availability of a digital ordering option does not necessarily mean a physical store is open at that moment.
Target Drive Up and Order Pickup on Holidays
Drive Up and Order Pickup availability should be checked separately from general store hours, especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Target has offered special same-day pickup arrangements during previous holiday seasons. For example, its 2025 holiday information included specific Christmas Eve deadlines for pickup orders.
Those deadlines were tied to that particular holiday season and should not be assumed for 2026 until Target publishes current details.
When a Target store is closed for a holiday, do not assume that placing an online order means it can be collected immediately.
Online Shopping When Target Stores Are Closed
Target’s website and app can remain available for online shopping even when physical stores are closed.
This distinction is particularly important on Thanksgiving. Target’s physical stores are closed, but customers can still shop digitally.
The same principle applied on Christmas Day in Target’s latest published holiday schedule. Orders could be placed digitally, with pickup or delivery occurring according to subsequent availability.
Online shopping availability therefore does not equal physical store availability.
Store Hours vs. Service Hours
When checking Target holiday hours, distinguish among several types of information:
- Store hours: When customers can enter the physical Target store.
- Holiday hours: Special opening, closing, or closure information for a particular holiday.
- Drive Up and Order Pickup: Availability depends on the store and fulfillment schedule.
- Delivery: Delivery timing can differ from physical store operating hours.
- Department or service hours: Some in-store services may follow a different schedule.
This is why the main store’s opening time alone may not answer every holiday-shopping question.

Sources & Verification
This guide was checked against Target’s official corporate holiday announcements, Target’s official Thanksgiving closure policy, its most recent published holiday store schedule, and Target’s official help information for finding store and holiday hours.
The most recent complete Thanksgiving-to-Christmas schedule available during verification was for the 2025 holiday season. Target’s 2026 corporate announcements available as of October 7, 2026, cover current holiday-season initiatives but do not yet provide a complete 2026 Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and extended December store-hours schedule. For that reason, previous-year times are identified as historical rather than presented as confirmed 2026 hours.
Before You Go
The key Target holiday hours to remember are the major closures: Target stores are closed on Thanksgiving under a permanent company policy, while Christmas Day has also consistently been a store-closure day.
For Black Friday, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day, and other holidays, verify the exact 2026 schedule for your selected store before making a trip. Target’s store finder and app provide location-specific hours, and Target may announce additional 2026 holiday-season hours closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
