Sonic Holiday Hours 2026: Thanksgiving, Christmas & More
Sonic holiday hours are not governed by one simple nationwide timetable. Sonic says most of its drive-ins are independently franchised, and local operators set the appropriate operating hours for their restaurants. The company publishes minimum normal operating hours, but it does not currently publish a complete national 2026 holiday-hours calendar.
That distinction is especially important around Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. Some Sonic employment listings state that their restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, while previous holiday reporting has documented other Sonic locations operating on those days.
Quick Answer
There is no publicly confirmed chainwide Sonic holiday schedule for every U.S. drive-in in 2026. Sonic normally allows local franchise operators to set restaurant hours, so holiday opening and closing times can differ by location. Sonic job listings for some restaurants specifically state they are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but that should not be treated as proof that every Sonic follows the same policy. Check your selected drive-in before traveling.
Sonic Holiday Hours 2026 at a Glance
Because Sonic has not published exact nationwide 2026 hours for the holidays below, the table distinguishes confirmed calendar dates from operating information that still requires local verification.
| Holiday | 2026 Date | Sonic Status |
|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | January 1 | Check selected drive-in |
| Easter Sunday | April 5 | Check selected drive-in |
| Memorial Day | May 25 | Check selected drive-in |
| Independence Day | July 4 | Check selected drive-in |
| Labor Day | September 7 | Check selected drive-in |
| Veterans Day | November 11 | Check selected drive-in |
| Thanksgiving | November 26 | Location-specific; some Sonic job listings state closed |
| Christmas Eve | December 24 | Check selected drive-in for possible modified hours |
| Christmas Day | December 25 | Location-specific; some Sonic job listings state closed |
| New Year’s Eve | December 31 | Check selected drive-in |
This table deliberately does not assign unverified opening or closing times. Sonic’s official FAQ says local franchise operators determine the appropriate hours for their drive-ins.
Is Sonic Open on Thanksgiving 2026?
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
A nationwide Thanksgiving opening policy for every Sonic drive-in has not been publicly confirmed for 2026. Current Sonic career listings for some restaurants include “Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas” among employee benefits, providing direct evidence that those particular operations observe Thanksgiving closures.
However, this should not be converted into a blanket statement that every Sonic in the country will be closed. Sonic says the vast majority of its restaurants are owned by local business operators, and previous Thanksgiving reporting has included Sonic among chains with restaurants operating on the holiday.
For Thanksgiving 2026, verify the individual drive-in rather than relying on a chainwide closing time.
Is Sonic Open on Christmas Day 2026?
Christmas Day falls on Friday, December 25, 2026.
Some current Sonic restaurant job listings explicitly identify Christmas as a closure day. That is useful evidence for those restaurants, but Sonic has not published a current corporate page confirming that every drive-in nationwide will be closed on Christmas 2026.
There is also evidence of location variation: holiday reporting for Christmas 2025 listed Sonic among restaurant chains where some locations were open, with franchise decisions and individual restaurant hours affecting availability.
The safest answer is therefore location-specific. Do not assume your Sonic is open—or closed—until you check that particular drive-in.
What Are Sonic Christmas Eve Hours?
Christmas Eve is Thursday, December 24, 2026.
Sonic has not published one nationwide Christmas Eve opening-and-closing schedule for 2026. A restaurant may operate its usual schedule, reduce its hours, or follow another locally determined schedule.
This is one holiday where checking the specific drive-in is particularly important. Normal operating hours should not automatically be treated as Christmas Eve hours.
Is Sonic Open on New Year’s Day?
New Year’s Day 2026 was Thursday, January 1. Sonic does not publish a universal New Year’s Day timetable covering every drive-in.
For future New Year’s Day visits, use the restaurant locator or Sonic ordering system to check the selected location rather than assuming normal hours apply.
What About Sonic New Year’s Eve Hours?
New Year’s Eve falls on Thursday, December 31, 2026.
Exact chainwide hours are not currently published. Local restaurants may set their own schedules, making it possible for closing times to differ between nearby Sonic drive-ins.
If you plan to visit late in the evening, verify the selected restaurant shortly before leaving rather than relying on its ordinary Thursday schedule.
Is Sonic Open on Easter?
Easter Sunday fell on April 5, 2026.
There is no current official Sonic source establishing one Easter schedule for every U.S. restaurant. Local operating hours should therefore be checked individually.
The same principle applies to Good Friday and the surrounding Easter weekend: normal operating hours are not proof of holiday-specific hours.
Sonic Hours on Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day
For holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, Sonic does not currently provide a national 2026 holiday table assigning the same exact opening and closing time to every restaurant.
The 2026 dates are:
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 25
- Independence Day: Saturday, July 4
- Labor Day: Monday, September 7
Because Sonic franchise operators can determine local restaurant hours, the selected drive-in remains the authoritative place to confirm its schedule.
Do Sonic Holiday Hours Vary by Location?
Yes. Location variation is central to understanding Sonic hours.
Sonic’s official FAQ says 95% of its more than 3,600 drive-ins are owned by local business operators and states that independent franchisees are best positioned to establish appropriate hours for their local Sonic restaurants. The company gives minimum normal operating hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., but those are not a guaranteed holiday schedule.
This means two important things:
- A drive-in’s ordinary operating hours do not prove its holiday hours.
- A holiday closure or reduced schedule found for one Sonic should not automatically be applied to another location.
Holiday availability should therefore be checked at the restaurant level.
Are Sonic’s Normal Hours the Same as Holiday Hours?
Not necessarily.
Sonic states that its minimum normal hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., while individual franchise operators can set the hours appropriate for their restaurants.
Those minimum operating hours should not be interpreted as a promise that every restaurant will operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, or another holiday.
Holiday schedules can be exceptions to normal operations.
How to Check Sonic Holiday Hours Near You
The most reliable method is to identify the exact Sonic you intend to visit and check that restaurant rather than searching for a nationwide time.
- Use Sonic’s official restaurant locator and search by city, state, ZIP code, or address.
- Select the specific drive-in you intend to visit.
- Check its current operating or ordering availability close to the holiday.
- Use the Sonic app as another location-specific check when applicable.
- For an important holiday visit, call the restaurant directly if its holiday schedule is unclear.
Sonic’s FAQ specifically directs customers to its restaurant locator to find local drive-ins and their information.
Remember that Google Maps hours can be useful as a secondary check, but ordinary opening hours do not independently confirm a restaurant’s special Thanksgiving or Christmas schedule.
Check Holiday Availability in the Sonic App
The Sonic app can help you select a particular restaurant and determine whether Order Ahead is available there. Sonic says Order Ahead is available at almost all of its drive-ins, while availability and operating windows can still vary by restaurant.
The app is also location-sensitive. Sonic explains that location access can be used to find nearby drive-ins supporting Order Ahead.
An important distinction is that Order Ahead availability is not a universal holiday-hours guarantee. If a drive-in is closed or has changed its hours for a holiday, ordering availability can be affected as well.
Does Sonic Drive-Thru Availability Change on Holidays?
There is no single verified 2026 holiday drive-thru timetable covering every Sonic location.
Sonic’s operating formats and hours can differ by restaurant, so do not assume that a drive-thru, stalls, or ordering service remains available simply because the restaurant normally operates during those hours.
For a holiday visit, check the exact location and the service you plan to use.
Sonic Holiday Menu and Deals
Holiday operating hours should be kept separate from limited-time menu items and promotions.
Sonic has offered holiday-themed products and seasonal promotions historically, but an older promotion is not evidence that the same product or offer is available in 2026. For example, Sonic’s press archive contains previous holiday promotions from earlier years; those offers had defined limited-time periods and should be treated as historical rather than current.
For current offers, check Sonic’s official website or app. Sonic’s FAQ also notes that promotional codes can expire and that marketing communications specify applicable dates, locations, and purchase requirements.
Prices likewise vary by drive-in, so a single national price should not be assumed.
Why You May Find Conflicting Sonic Holiday Hours Online
Conflicting information does not necessarily mean one schedule applies nationwide.
Three factors matter:
- Sonic restaurants are predominantly operated by independent franchisees.
- Individual restaurants can set locally appropriate hours.
- Holiday schedules can differ from standard operating hours.
There is a particularly useful example with Thanksgiving and Christmas: current Sonic career listings for some restaurants say those locations are closed on both holidays, while 2025 national holiday reporting documented some Sonic restaurants as open.
For that reason, a generic national holiday table assigning an exact time to every Sonic restaurant can be misleading.
Sources & Verification
This guide was checked on September 23, 2026, using Sonic’s current official FAQ, restaurant locator, ordering information, Sonic career listings, and historical Sonic press materials. Recent holiday reporting was used only where it helped demonstrate documented location variation rather than establish a universal 2026 schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sonic Open on Thanksgiving 2026?
There is no confirmed nationwide Thanksgiving schedule covering every Sonic drive-in. Some current Sonic restaurant job listings explicitly state that those restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving, but local verification is necessary because Sonic restaurants are predominantly independently operated.
Is Sonic Open on Christmas Day 2026?
It depends on the location. Some Sonic job listings state that their restaurants are closed on Christmas, but Sonic has not published a universal 2026 Christmas Day schedule for every drive-in. Check your selected location before visiting.
What Time Does Sonic Close on Christmas Eve?
There is no verified nationwide Sonic Christmas Eve closing time for 2026. Individual drive-ins can have different schedules, so check the restaurant locator or contact the specific location.
Is Sonic Open on New Year’s Eve?
Sonic has not published one nationwide New Year’s Eve 2026 schedule. The holiday falls on December 31, and the exact opening and closing times should be confirmed with the selected drive-in.
Does Sonic Have Regular Hours on July 4?
Do not assume regular hours automatically apply. Sonic allows local operators to establish restaurant hours, and a universal July 4, 2026 timetable is not currently published.
Are All Sonic Locations Closed on the Same Holidays?
A universal closure policy covering every holiday and every location is not publicly stated on Sonic’s current FAQ. Some Sonic restaurant job listings identify Thanksgiving and Christmas as closure days, while historical holiday reporting demonstrates that operating decisions can differ.
How Can I Find Sonic Holiday Hours Near Me?
Use Sonic’s official restaurant locator, select your exact drive-in, and check its current information. For Thanksgiving, Christmas, or another major holiday, calling the restaurant directly is the strongest additional check when special hours are unclear.
Can I Order Sonic Through the App on a Holiday?
Only when ordering is available for the selected restaurant. Sonic says Order Ahead availability depends on the drive-in, so app access should not be interpreted as a chainwide promise of holiday service.
Before You Go
The key point about Sonic Holiday Hours is that there is no reliable one-size-fits-all 2026 timetable. Sonic’s independently operated drive-ins can have different schedules, and holiday exceptions may not match normal operating hours.
Thanksgiving and Christmas deserve particular attention: some Sonic employment listings specifically identify both as closure days, but that evidence does not establish a universal nationwide policy. Before making a holiday trip, select your exact restaurant in Sonic’s official locator and confirm its current hours.
